Monsoon rains has flooded the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah since November last year. Nearly 50,000 people have been evacuated. Most badly hit was Pahang with close to 30,000 people evacuated.

The Malaysian Book Publishers Association started a donation drive, spearheaded by the University Malaysia Pahang Press to collect funds for flood victims. More than RM10,000 was collected on the first day with nearly RM18000 collected to date.

In another initiative, the Malaysian Book Council and the Resource and Educational Technology Division of the Ministry of Education has called for publishers to donate books to schoolchildren and school libraries in Pahang. Many school libraries have been damaged in the floods and it is hoped that with the book donation, the schools will be able to rebuild their collection quickly.
